How is a pack organized?

A cub scout pack involves all of the scouts, grades Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.
Then, it is broken up into dens, smaller groups of scouts divided by age group.

Kindergarten/ 5 Year Olds = Lions
First Grade/ 6 Year Olds = Tigers
Second Grade/ 7 Year Olds = Wolf
Third Grade/ 8 Year Olds = Bear
Fourth Grade/ 9 Year Olds = Webelos
Fifth Grade/ 10 Year Olds = Arrow of Life

Time Commitment

Our pack gathers approximately twice per month.
Once per month, we meet Sunday afternoons, 3:45-5:15pm, and do skills and activities in our separate dens
Once per month, we have a pack-wide activity, which could be anything from a hike, to a campout, to the annual pinewood derby.  Those events are usually on Sundays, and times and locations will vary based on the activity

Parents for scouts in Kindergarten and First Grade are required to be present at all events with their scouts.
Parents for older scouts, Grade 2, 3, 4, and 5, are permitted to leave their child at events with a responsible adult.

In addition, our pack relies on parent volunteers to be able to run all of our programming.  We ask that every family commits to help out in some way - that can be with anything from helping plan activities, fundraising, recruiting, or a variety of other possibilities.

How much does it cost?

Our pack does its absolute best to keep costs low. That being said, the base cost of participation is as follows:

$165 - Registration Dues, paid with your application.  This fee goes to the National Scouting organization and the local scout council, and covers the cost of insurance that protects our scouts, maintaining scout camps and facilities in the area, and hours of trainings available to every scout leader and scout parent

$80 - Our internal pack activity fee for the 2026-2027 year will be $80.  This covers the materials used in all of our meetings and activities, including the kit for pinewood derby race, all awards your scout will earn during the year (awards include belt buckles that represent completed adventures, and patches representing completed ranks), and a pack T-shirt

Uniform - Every scout should purchase a "Class A" uniform shirt, including a council patch and our pack numerals (6-1-3-4).  this uniform shirt should be a one-time purchase that lasts for all your scouts years in our pack. The approximate cost of these are between $50-60.

Additional Activities - As mentioned, our pack does its best to keep costs low. There are multiple optional activities that do have per-person costs that are not included in the activity fee.  Most of those costs are designed to cover food or registration for those activities, and are usually set by the outside organizations running them. For example:
* Overnight campout: $20-25/person
* Scout Kinus - (A 2-night Regional Jewish Scouting Campout, over shabbat): $90/person
* MD Science Center Sleepover: $75/person
* Blue and Gold Dinner: $5/person

In total, if this is your scout's first year in our pack, and assuming they participate in every single activity available, the total cost is likely to be less than $500.  That number can and will be reduced by fundraising opportunities.  It also is less than the cost of most other extra-curricular activities.
